The relaxation of the smooth muscles lining the penile arteries allows these arteries of the corpus cavernosum to become engorged with blood, compressing the veins that drain blood from the penis and, as a result, trapping blood within the corpus cavernosum to produce an erection.

118 male subjects were surveyed in January and February of 2007. Participants were all male, chosen at random from a database of consumers who purchased MAXODERM between the dates of October 1, 2006 and January 10, 2007.
